Our Group
began its publishing activities in the field of language teaching
materials in the seventies, but it was not until 1992 that it created
a specific business structure for this purpose: Richmond
Publishing, dedicated to producing English-as-a-foreign-language
teaching materials. Teams of publishers were established in London,
Oxford, Madrid, Mexico D.F. and Buenos Aires. Each of these groups
pursued the same objective: the development of high quality materials
to meet the specific needs of the different markets where the Group
is present.
Santillana
first started publishing French courses in the
1970’s. To meet the increased demand, however, it has recently
promoted the development of materials in this language with the
series Action!, Action! XXI and
Énergie for secondary schools, and C’est
la vie for adolescents and adults.
In
order to satisfy the growing demand for French-as-a-foreign-language
materials, and following on from the successful publication of the
À l'aventure and Alerte series, Santillana has recently put
further resources into secondary school materials in French.
In
the field of Spanish, the agreement with Spain´s
University of Salamanca has favored the development of a wide range
of Spanish-as- a-foreign- language materials, including 'Viaje al
Español' and the Diccionario Salamanca de la Lengua Española,
as well as several other series designed to further bilingual education
in the United States of America.
The
growing interest in the Spanish language observed in Brazil and
in the United States of America, as well as in countries belonging
to the European Union, has motivated Grupo Santillana to embark
on new projects that will come to fruition in the near future and
will reinforce our product range in Spanish as a foreign and second
language.
