PThe Crisol Chain of Bookshops

The modern concept of the bookshop has replaced the traditional idea of the bookstore as an establishment that exists merely for the buying and selling of books. Today, the bookshop is a meeting point that brings together shoppers and cultural products, ranging from books and records through multimedia products. It is also a venue that hosts authors' colloquiums. Thus the old style of bookshop is becoming a thing of the past.

The Crisol Chain was modeled on this new concept of the bookshop. Founded in 1987, it pioneered the development of the new formula of bookshop in Spain.

In addition, at Santillana we felt the need, as publishers, to reach our readers as directly as possible, giving them access to all our publications as well as materials published by other Spanish-language publishers. Crisol also provides us with first-hand knowledge of our readers' opinions and preferences, and gives us with the opportunity to tailor our publishing projects to our readers' needs.

PThe Crisol shops

The Crisol chain has bookshops in Madrid, Barcelona and Peru.

All the bookshops in the Crisol chain offer customers a broad range of services: cultural/leisure products – books, CDs, videos, DVDs, multimedia, press and stationery; extended, uninterrupted opening hours, 7 days a week; a complete search service for locating and ordering items; bibliographical information on close to one million titles; and last but not least, Crisol offers its experience to its customers so that they can benefit from insights into the literary and music worlds accumulated since it was first set up. Its recommendations on books and records, which include The Best Reads and The Best Audio, are widely respected by its peers.

PClub Crisol

In only ten years, Club Crisol has become the number one customer loyalty club and is renowned for its original and appealing features. At present, over 100,000 customers enjoy the advantages of Club Crisol membership.

One of the features of Club Crisol membership are Eurocrisoles for 5% of the value of each purchase. These cheques, which are honoured by all the shops in the chain, can be used by the customer to purchase any product during the period of validity imprinted on the same.

The value of this reduction doubles for some promotional events, articles and periods. Other important membership features include: receiving information about new products and special offers; invitations to readings and signings by top writers and artists; the opportunity to take part in literature competitions and videogames tournaments, and the right to vote in the Crisol Readers’ Prize.

PThe Crisol Readers’ Prize

Crisol’s commitment to bringing authors from the world of literature closer to their readers led the chain to create the Crisol Readers’ Prize five years ago. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that each year Crisol readers vote for their favourite work, thereby giving this prize a popular dimension..

Crisol’s commitment to promoting reading and its unwavering support of the literary world encourage the chain to award this prize year after year. So far, Crisol readers have already cast their vote for distinguished authors such as Mario Vargas Llosa, for his novel La fiesta del Chivo; Frank McCourt, for Las cenizas de Ángela; Miguel Delibes, for El Hereje; Antonio Muñoz Molina, for Plenilunio; Javier Cercas for Soldados de Salamina; Almudena Grandes for Los aires difíciles; and Dan Brown for El Código da Vinci.
