Crisol Chain of Bookshops |
|

 |
The modern concept of the bookshop has replaced the traditional idea
of the bookstore as an establishment that exists merely for the buying
and selling of books. Today, the bookshop is a meeting point that
brings together shoppers and cultural products, ranging from books
and records through multimedia products. It is also a venue that hosts
authors' colloquiums. Thus the old style of bookshop is becoming a
thing of the past. The
Crisol Chain was modeled on this new concept of
the bookshop. Founded in 1987, it pioneered the development of the
new formula of bookshop in Spain.
In
addition, at Santillana we felt the need, as publishers, to reach
our readers as directly as possible, giving them access to all our
publications as well as materials published by other Spanish-language
publishers. Crisol also provides us with first-hand knowledge of
our readers' opinions and preferences, and gives us with the opportunity
to tailor our publishing projects to our readers' needs.

Crisol Readers’ Prize |
|

 |
Crisol’s commitment to bringing authors from the world of literature
closer to their readers led the chain to create the Crisol Readers’
Prize five years ago. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that each year
Crisol readers vote for their favourite work, thereby giving this
prize a popular dimension.. Crisol’s
commitment to promoting reading and its unwavering support of the
literary world encourage the chain to award this prize year after
year. So far, Crisol readers have already cast their vote for distinguished
authors such as Mario Vargas Llosa, for his novel La fiesta
del Chivo; Frank McCourt, for Las cenizas de Ángela;
Miguel Delibes, for El Hereje; Antonio Muñoz Molina,
for Plenilunio; Javier Cercas for Soldados de Salamina;
Almudena Grandes for Los aires difíciles; and Dan
Brown for El Código da Vinci.
